What is SMOFLIPID 20% INFUSION?

• SMOFLIPID 20% INFUSION contains Soybean oil, medium chain triglycerides, olive oil and fish oil

Uses

What SMOFLIPID 20% INFUSION is used for?

It is used:

• In adults to provide energy, essential fatty acids and omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil
• When you are unable to take food by mouth or other forms of feeding have not worked (e.g. nasogastric tube, direct catheter)

Warning & Precautions

• Are allergic to any other ingredients of this medicine
• Have high level of lipids in your blood
• Have kidney or liver problems,
• Have diabetes
• Have pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
• Have thyroid problems (hypothyroidism)
• Have severe blood clotting disorders
• Are suffering from a heart attack, acute stroke
• Have metabolic acidosis (too much acid in the blood), severe infection (sepsis), dehydration or a blockage in the arteries
• Have an unstable medical condition

Interactions

• Heparin or coumarin derivates (used to treat blood clot)

Directions & For Use

• This medicine will be given to you by your doctor or nurse
• It is given by intravenous infusion route
• It is administered into your blood by a drip or an infusion pump

Side Effects

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Chills
• Redness and stinging may occur at the injection site
• High or low blood pressure

        Breathing difficulties, skin rash, urticaria, flush, headache

• Keep this medicine out of reach of the children
• Store at a room temperature of 15-25C
